IDA Invited To Signing of Landmark Spay/Neuter Bill

SoCal Campaign Coordinator Bill Dyer celebrates with Mayor Villaraigosa & Bob Barker

It's official — Los Angeles, California is now the largest state to pass a comprehensive spay/neuter law for companion animals, which requires sterilization of most cats and dogs over four months of age. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed the bill on Tuesday, February 26th at a press conference attended by animal advocates who supported the effort.

Among them was IDA's own Bill Dyer, pictured here (from left to right) with Bob Barker, Mayor Villaraigosa, and campaign director Judie Mancuso. Barker, standing next to Dyer, is the recently-retired host of "Price is Right," the longest-running game show in the history of American television, and ended every show by reminding viewers to spay and neuter their companion animals. After Mayor Villaraigosa signed the bill, the ecstatic Barker told reporters, "The next time that you hear me say, 'Help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered,' I can add, 'It's the law in Los Angeles.'"

Bill noted that the tireless advocacy of IDA's thousands of California members were instrumental in this monumental victory, so give our California members a big round of applause! Now get to work on passing a similar law in your state!
