Guardian of the Month - 2004
Kelly Caldwell, Photographer
Kelly Caldwell, a Canadian photographer who specializes in fine art portraits of dogs and the people who love them, is IDA's Animal Guardian of the Month for November. A supporter of IDA's Guardian Campaign, Kelly has been referring to her clients as animal guardians ever since she can remember.
"I believe that the nature of the human-animal bond is highly complex and extremely profound," she explains. "When we refer to ourselves as pet 'owners,' we diminish our relationship with the animals who enrich our lives."
Kelly is a passionate and vocal supporter of animal welfare. She donates a portion of all proceeds from her artwork to animal non-profit organizations such as the Ontario SPCA, the Toronto Humane Society, IDA, and various regional and breed-specific rescue organizations. Kelly also helps in a more hands-on way, offering both her time and paintings to benefit animal welfare causes. Currently, Kelly is actively involved in efforts to strengthen Canadian animal cruelty punishment laws.
