I pledge to be a Guardian of Animals

I believe that by using humane terms like animal guardian or caretaker instead of animal owner , I can encourage people to approach animals more respectfully as living beings rather than as objects, commodities, and property. I understand that language is a powerful tool, and updating my language is the foundation for long-term social progress toward ending suffering. By talking to the people I know with language that encourages respect, protection and care for non-human animals, I do my part to pass on humane values to future generations.

Attach the Guardian Campaign signature to the end of my email messages.
Directions on how to attach your signature;

Ask editors, educators, veterinarians, and animal and child welfare organizations that I notice using the term“pet owner”, to use the kinder term, “animal guardian” instead;

Distribute Guardian Campaign materials at community events (we can mail you the materials);

Post to email lists/newsgroups to pass on Guardian Campaign information and alerts;

Work to pass an ordinance in my community to introduce the term “guardian” where “owner” now appears in local animal-related codes;

Do outreach to schools and educators encouraging and/or helping them to teach humane and character education based on Guardian Campaign principles.
